cookie trouble

i was browsing through the forums and my pc hung up and re booted, when i logged back in onto the forums everything was marked as read...i know i had not read every new post but on the main page the "NEW" symbol was not there and it was showing as already read...is it some kind of a problem with the internet explorer on my pc or the site?

The forum sees when you log in and sees it all as new posts. If you leave the site (pc crashes, you leave the forum, ..) - it would register that you "came by already" and mark it as read.

This is the functionality of PhpBB the software running uaeboost's forum..
