Great day !!! Had lots of fun, good crowd .. Amazing drivers !!

I guess mine was the stuck of the day, tried to avoid a $tup'd lady walking on our track and my 4x4 went sliding into a 40foot bowl. Soft sand, car was on its chassis.

6 of us with the help of a local got it out. Thumbs up to the local in his LC70 who used his hands as a shovel and expert driving to get it out.

PR> sorry we got carried away, its just the dunes were so much fun we forgot to hear our tummys.

Had an amazing time as i said ... here are some pics, hope you enjoi them :)

Amazing driving by PR and the others, but the driving that opened my eye was the Xtrail ... it went EVERYWHERE we went with no exceptions whatsoever.

Also a thumbs and all fingers up to the amazing performance by Boost. i think we need to meet more often, how the h*** do you drive offroad without a damn seatbelt? i keep getting thrown all over the place when i tried it looking at you !!!! At one stage i was nearly on the passenger seat and i havent a clue who was driving for that 3-4 seconds !!! thumbs up man !!! amazing performance and show of you and your LC in action.

we should do this again some time ...

also many thanks to Dubai Desert Club - they were so helpful. If we stop out 4x4 and just look at our tyre pressure ... they'll come and ask "is everything ok? need help?".

It's my pleasure, guys - thanks to all of you who drove out! 8)

Yeah, you all did well: the guys who pushed it as well as the guys who prefered to take it easy.

The thing about the "soft" off-roaders is not so much the lack of power (I mean, you saw the old Land Rover carving up the slipface, right! :!: That doesn't have many ponies...) but it is the strength and durability of parts.

A couple of more trips and the X-Trail bumpers will come off and the chassis might become compromised - it's just not built for hard knocks.

The newer 4x4s as well - the Land Cruiser and the Fortuner and the Pajero are built tough, but are so expensive to fix that after a couple of trips your wallet will be hurting.

So, the ideal sand machine is old and tough. A machine you can bang all day and nothing breaks, and if it does break it's cheap to fix, and it's your second car so you don't mind leaving it up on jackstands for a few days.

Wrangler YJ, Patrol capsula, yes even LR Defender 90, and full-size Land Cruiser 80 and Patrol station old boxy shape - those are the old workhorses (work-camels :D ) that will serve well for many trips.

I was worried you guys might go home with damages - but I'm glad all went home happy! (Y)

End of March we can do a cross-country trip, but in the meantime don't go practice too hard on your cars! :D
