Blinging down the streets of Sharjah in a Toyota Soarer may seem preposterous since they are some of the most common cars around these days but knowing what’s under the hood is what we always struggle for. Lets get down with one of those Soarer owners that always wish to beat the quickest wannabes’ around the crib. Lets see what Ghassan Othman has got under his 1994 Toyota Soarer (Lexus SC400).

The very first thing to notice is the plain old look of the car itself with just a match up of 18-inch BBS rims indicating some racing personality but that’s not the end of the story. The voltage-style headlights give a fiercer look to the ride while the rear spoiler tends to make it 100% aerodynamic. The design being precisely dynamic, lowered springs make it absolutely invincible to the swift air. Certainly, Soarers are exclusive for their sharp-witted design when compared to many other Japanese high-performance cars.

“The Soarer is a very good-looking car and it’s very comfortable as well,” says Ghassan. Well, may be he meant the opposite. Though it certainly is a good-looking car, it wasn’t as comfortable as it seems when it was first purchased. Dreaming of a more luxurious life, Ghassan replaced the racing bucket seats (that came pre-equipped with the car) with beige-colored leather seats. The all-ready leather trimmed dashboard was an additional relief for him while the monitoring system consists of a HKS boost gauge, HKS oil temperature gauge and a HKS water temperature gauge. Above all, the ride went through a major piece of work, the conversion from right-hand drive to left-hand drive and from automatic transmission to a manual one.

The 1JZ-GTE twin-turbo engine retains its stock internals, the stock cams and cam gears were left in place and no headwork was done. The prime time player under the hood is a HKS T04R turbo kit. The rest of the turbo system consists of a Blitz KKK intercooler and an APEXi air/fuel controller (AFC-II). The fuel side consists of a Sard fuel line and fuel pump as well as Sard 550cc injectors. Other tidbits include an HKS oil cooler kit, OZ double-plate clutch and full 3-inch Blitz exhaust system with 3-inch piping.

The main objective being to produce one of the quickest Soarers in town, Ghassan couldn’t think of anything better than a Nitrous Oxide System (NOS) kit. There he goes for a 150-shot wet NOS kit purchased and installed by Performance MotorSpares, one of the best tuner garages in the city. To avoid any misconduct by the NOS kit, he also equipped a CRY O2 cooling gas kit to keep the whole course of action under control. The NOS kit is believed to provide an extra 100 horsepower to the engine, although, it has not been tested. “I have not tested the NOS yet. It’s assumed to boost up the car’s horsepower by a 100 units and I don’t think I’m ready to unleash the true potential of my car at this moment of time”, explains Ghassan. The 1JZ-GTE now produces more than 530bhp without NOS.

Apart from the drag GReddy turbo-charged Soarer tuned by Performance Motor Spares, Ghassan’s Toyota Soarer is, otherwise, the quickest one in the United Arab Emirates.
